The Essence of Wood

Wood stands as one of nature’s most timeless materials, versatile, tactile, and deeply expressive.
Its grain tells a story of growth and endurance; its surface brings warmth and authenticity to every form it shapes.

In design, wood embodies both strength and softness, offering a tactile connection to nature that feels inherently human.
Each tone, from the light brown’s purity to the dark brown’s grounded richness, adds depth and character, creating a timeless harmony that transcends trends and celebrates natural design.

Our Chosen Material: Teak Wood

Minimlizm works primarily with Tectona grandis (Teak), a hardwood revered for its durability, fine grain, and resistance to decay.

Sourced responsibly from FSC-certified plantations and reclaimed sources, our teak embodies the values of longevity and circular design.
Each piece of teak tells a story of patience, a material that matures over decades, gathering natural oils that protect it against time, weather, and wear.

Properties of Teak Wood:

  • Density: 650–750 kg/m³

  • Durability Class: I (Very durable)

  • Natural oil content: High — naturally water and pest resistant

  • Average lifespan in furniture: 50–70 years

Carbon Storage

Every cubic meter of teak wood acts as a natural carbon store.

  • 1 m³ of teak wood stores approximately 0.9 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent for as long as the product lasts.

  • A single teak chair (approx. 0.04 m³ of wood) therefore stores around 36 kg of CO₂.

  • This storage continues throughout the furniture’s life, extending carbon sequestration far beyond the tree’s growth cycle.

Sustainability and Circularity

At Minimlizm, each piece of wood product is designed not only to serve but to last — to age gracefully rather than be replaced.

We emphasise:

  • Responsible Sourcing: From certified or reclaimed teak wood.

  • Minimal Processing: Reducing energy use and material waste.

  • Longevity by Design: Every joint and surface designed to endure, repair, and renew.

  • End-of-Life Reuse: Components are designed to be disassembled, reworked, or recycled, ensuring circular life.
